Anthony's Walk for a Thalassemia Cure!

So hello all, my name is Anthony Ferrino and I have been with the Queens Chapter Cooleys Anemia for over 20 years, I met the President John long time ago as he was my boss for the dept of sanitation, John and I have become close friends I would even consider him a grandfather figure as he is much older than me (LOL).

Over the past 20 years we have come a long way in meds/treatments/medical care and it has warmed my heart that I was a part of this. The one day it really hit me was when I was asked to be the Godfather to my (non blood son’s) baby. I actually was floored when I was asked. Right then and there I knew what we were doing is something short of a miracle. Even though john and I argue every day it is because we care so much.

After retiring from DSNY after 31 years I have found myself in sort of a stagnate state. I have always wanted to Backpack thru Europe so my Daughter actually told me about Camino de Santiago a pilgrimage that goes back thousands of years. I looked into it and said “I want to do this” so after much research and helping my daughter plan her trip which she completed July 22 . (VERY PROUD)

I have been walking daily with my backpack thru the streets building up my stamina. Then it hit me let me attach my charity to it. It is a 160 mile walk so maybe we can get some donors or just our friends and family to say hey here 20 or 50 bucks so I can actually watch Anthony walk around Europe like a silly nut (LOL) and film it on TikTok TikTok.com/anthonyfromqueens11414.

Maybe my adventures will help us raise more funds to help the kids that are born with this disease. All funds donated go directly to the Cooley's Anemia Foundation. My journey starts September 19!

Remember “ lets kiss our kids goodnight NOT goodbye” and by the grace of God we are accomplishing that.

Sincerely,
Anthony Ferrino
